Preserving Church Heritage Through Digital Tourism
Using mobile technology to help preserve the culture and heritage of Phillipine is part of the ongoing Smart Tourism program in digital tourism, which was launched back in 2011. The program includes the creation of applications, mobile manuals and interactive materials.
And now, due to the restriction on movements around the country and the upcoming 500th anniversary of the arrival of Christianity in the Philippines, the church authorities decided to join the Smart Tourism program and start learning digital technologies. Together with technology companies, they have begun to work on a mobile application that will support an interactive digital exhibition dedicated to church heritage.
We, as promoters of Smart Tourism, are undoubtedly pleased that modern digital technologies can be beneficial in all areas of our lives, including religion. We believe that this useful initiative could set an example for other religious organizations in the world, and draw their attention to the benefits of digitalization.
