More About Sustainable Tourism
In her article a tourism expert Dr Hayley Stainton explains in detail what sustainable tourism is.
The main idea of her definition is that the basis of sustainable tourism is caring for the environment, society and economy. The principles of sustainable tourism are aimed at minimizing the negative effects of tourism, while maximizing its positive impacts.
Since caring for the environment is an integral part of sustainable tourism, we can add that Smart Tourism is perfectly fit for its principles as it makes travel more paperless. As we already wrote in previous articles, the introduction of digital maps, guides, tickets, boarding passes gradually replaces the need to use paper for the same purposes. Reducing the use of paper for traveling makes tourists leave less litter, and helps to save natural resources that are spent on paper production. You can read more about this here.
