Smart City vs Coronavirus
Digital technologies related to tourism can be extremely useful not only in the tourism field.
For example, the Spanish city of Alcoy has been working on the Smart City project for many years. The project has already implemented such initiatives as the introduction of e-administration, charging points for electric vehicles, innovative government procurement; the plan to recognize Alcoy as a smart tourist destination was also carried out.
It turned out that all these initiatives can be of great benefit right now, during a pandemic. Alcoy City Council intends to apply the existing and future infrastructure and management systems developed as part of the Smart City strategy against the spread of Covid-19.
We believe that with this approach, Alcoy will certainly become a Smart tourist destination after the end of the crisis. This example suggests that digitalization is becoming a necessary part of our life, and not just an assistant for attracting tourists.
