Lesson 20
Tilda Site Builder
The next popular site builder we want to talk about is called Tilda Publishing, or simply Tilda.
You don’t need to be a programmer to work in this builder either. It’s easy enough to create a simple site. The main principle is building a site from ready-made blocks; there are more than 450 of them in the designer’s library.
You only need to place the blocks you like on the page of your future site and change the texts and images to your own. The blocks can be customized if desired. Each building block has item display settings. You can also adjust the thickness of lines, indents between blocks, width, scale and other parameters.
With the built-in Zero Block editor, you can create new blocks to your preference. The developers claim that “you can add text, images, objects, videos, html-code, forms and interactive prompts to Zero Block. Any element can be animated, and you can also make step-by-step animation – write a script for the appearance and movement of elements on the site”. This path is more time consuming, but provides ample opportunities for creativity.
The easiest way is to use ready-made site templates. This is a perfectly acceptable option for beginners, since all the proposed templates and blocks were developed by professional designers and look very decent.
On https://tilda.cc/lp/website-builder/ , you can read its description in detail and take training.
Tilda allows you to create:
- Site of the company.
- Landing page of a product or service.
- Small online store.
- Promo page.
- Portfolio of a specialist.
- Corporate blog.
- Presentation.
- Longreads and special projects for the media.
Pages automatically adapt to mobile devices, but if you wish, you can design different blocks for different screens. There are several options for hosting a finished site. You can host it on free Tilda hosting, or you can connect your domain to it, export it to another hosting, and also integrate it with other resources. The set of possibilities depends on the plan chosen during registration.
The number of available blocks also depends on the selected plan. For example, the free plan allows you to create one site with 50 pages. And it gives access to about half of the blocks and the Zero Block editor. You can place this kind of site only on the Tilda subdomain and its address will look something like this: sitename.tilda.ws.
This builder is very convenient for creating one-page landing sites. But creating multi-page sites might cause some problems.
First of all, this is the high cost of plans, inadequate to their capabilities. The Personal plan gives an increase in the number of pages and the amount of space provided on the server, but allows you to create only one site, as in the free plan. And the Business plan, although it increases the number of sites to 5, does not increase the amount of disk space.
Also, repeatability of templates might become a problem over time. Of course, this can be solved with the unlimited possibilities of the Zero Block editor, but it takes time and effort to master it.
Nevertheless, with templates and blocks offered by the builder, even a novice webmaster will be able to create a beautiful working website. And with switching to paid plans and gaining experience with the block editor, the results will only get better.
Here you can get acquainted with examples of sites made using this builder.
Basically, that’s all you need to know to get started at Tilda.
